Working Title – “April”

Genre – Romance

Overview –

 ‘April’ is a short romance film based on the deteriorating relationship between script writer ‘Isaac’ and free spirit ‘April’. Told through a broken narrative of flashbacks through various stages of their relationship, ‘April’ takes us on a journey from Isaac’s perspective of the two meeting ‘by chance’ to their rapidly growing bond and discovery of their very different beliefs and attitudes. When the couple come to an inevitable conflict, the future seems very uncertain.

Aims & Objectives – 

  • Produce and record high quality in both location sound & post production
  • Produce a well written soundtrack which will accompany and enhance the visual media whilst keeping to the genre of the piece
  • Create a strong set of emotion to fit with the genre of romance, make sure the mood is constantly clear throughout the film

 

Learning Outcomes –

  • To expand and increase our level of knowledge into sound for visual productions and gain a better understanding into recording location sound
  • Experiment using various recording and mixing techniques in relation to film sound to obtain the best possible sound from the production
  • Gain more experience in working with other forms of media and also gain experience in working with a larger group of people who are from different areas of media to our own

 

Technical Requirements – 

  • Location Sound Recording Equipment – Marantz portable recorder/Zoom H2 portable recorder & Rode NT Microphone
  • Camera Recording – Canon 550D & 60D with Rode video mic (audio syncing purposes)
  • Studio Recording – AKG 414, Beyerdynamic M201 (Foley,ADR)

 

Format – 

  • All sound recording and mixing to be done in Cubase 5 & Pro Tools 10 
  • Full Quicktime .mov file for audio and video mixdown
  • 4 Mixdowns (.wav 48khz) – Master mix, Dialogue mix, Music mix, FX mix
  • Final format (DVD & Youtube upload)

 

Issues & Ethics – 

  • Creating backup’s of every audio file to prevent data loss
  • Copyright of recordings/audio tracks
  • Time management & realistic targets
  • The “Health and Safety in Audio-Visual Production” guide produced by the Health and Safety Executive is a short handbook which contains information on good practice and working safely whilst recording on location. This will be useful for ensuring we are working within the law and in a safe way, especially when recording in a public place.
